YIMBA is thrilled to announce that our Managing Director Damien Barnes, has been appointed to the First Nations Legal & Research Services Legal, Third-Party Provider Panel.
Formerly known as Native Title Services Victoria, First Nations Legal & Research Services (FNLRS) was established in 2003 to provide First Nations people with support in native title matters in Victoria. In its capacity as the Native Title Representative Body for Victoria, FNLRS receives requests for assistance under section 2033BB of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth).
FNLRS has developed a Third Party Provider Panel (TPPP) of lawyers with requisite skills and experience who would be eligible to receive funding from FNLRS if an assistance request was granted and FNLRS was not able to provide the assistance.
The TPPP is a legal panel of lawyers that provide high quality legal services to Victorian Traditional Owners in relation to:
- Native title claims and native title outcomes including those under the Native Title Act
- the Victorian Traditional Owner Settlement Act
- Dispute resolution within and between Traditional Owner groups
More information on FNLRS can be found on their website www.fnlrs.com.au
Damien looks forward to working alongside FNLRS and Traditional Owner groups.
