In a spectacular display of culture and community spirit, Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) hosted the Kulilaya Festival on 24 March 2024. This amazing festival honours the historic 40th anniversary of the APY Land Rights Act and was streamed live as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Power Minerals Limited (ASX:PNN) General Manager of Land Access and YIMBA’s Managing Director, Damien Barnes spoke on stage to the 1,500 plus festival attendees in support major sponsor Power Minerals, who are proud to have a long-standing relationship with the APY communities since the 1990s.
During his speech, Damien acknowledged the many men and women who fought so hard to win Freehold Title to the APY lands for the benefit of their families and all the generations to follow.
The Festival’s cultural activities included the welcome dance by Elders, performances by contemporary East Arrente bands, traditional and contemporary art displays, traditional Inma dances and children’s events. The Kulilaya Festival not only honours the historic 40th anniversary of the APY Land Rights Act but also looks forward to nurturing APY culture for future generations. It stands as a testament to the Elders’ hard work and the vibrancy of the youth, ensuring that the traditions and the spirit of the APY people thrive.
